Sidenor Industrial, the largest manufacturer in Spain of special
steels, forgings and castings, for the automotive industry,
has at beginning of September 2008 awarded Danieli
Morgårdshammar the new greenfield wire rod mill to be
installed in the Basauri plant for the production of stainless
steel and special steel grades.

This project is considered the most modern installation
exploiting the latest technological features for the production
of special steels. The supply starts from the billet charging,
reheatin furnace, a two-high reversing shiftable type P653
roughing stand, associated front and back mechanization,
a continuous mill train of P600 horizontal and vertical stands,
a new Kocks RSB 300++, two wire rod blocks P800 series
followed by a new Oil Film Bearing laying head, garret line,
in-line quenching facilities for stainless steels and SUNDCO
coil handling system. All Electrical and Automation system are included in the scope of supply of Danieli.

The designed capacity of the mill is 250,000tpy and will be
able to produce sizes from 5.0mm up to 52mm in Engineering,
ball bearing, cold heading and stainless steel grades, starting
from a billet size up to 200mm square with a weight up to
3 ton.

Once again the housingless-type reversing shiftable rougher
has played a significant role in the process selection thanks
to the natural flexibility to roll any kind of material at desired
temperature and dimension whilst maintaining the proper
reduction rate.
Thanks to the Kocks RSB block the rolling mill has a single
pass family allowing switching between wire rod line and
garret line in few minutes without intervention in the roughing,
intermediate and pre-finishing mill set-up.
